Thunderbird Ranch is tucked into the Manzano Mountains, about 1.5 hours southeast of Albuquerque.

Driving Directions from Albuquerque

  1. Head east on I-40 E from Albuquerque
  2. Take exit 175 for NM-337 South (Tijeras / Manzano)
  3. Follow NM-337 south through the Manzano Mountains (~45 min of beautiful mountain driving)
  4. Continue through Manzano and Torreon toward Mountainair
  5. Detailed final directions provided after booking

Important: The last stretch is on unpaved mountain roads. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended year-round. 4WD is required in winter months (November through March).

Nearest Town: Mountainair

About 15 minutes from the ranch. Here you'll find:

  • Grocery: Dollar General and a small market
  • Gas: Phillips 66 station on US-60
  • Dining: Alpine Alley Cafe, Pop & Jenny's
  • Hospital: Mountainair Health Center (urgent care); nearest ER is in Los Lunas (~1 hr)
  • Cell service: Available in town (limited on the ranch)
